Atlanta based rapper “Rocko”, in an interview with Billboard last month stated, “I bought a studio and didn’t even know how to rap” Well that holds true with the release of his first album, “Self Made”. The album which hosts his hot single “Umma Do me” pays tribute to Gucci, expensive cars, and other nonsense we are tired of hearing about. Nothing on this album sets Rocko aside from any other rapper we’ve listened to over the past decade.

No. 6 on the album “Old Skool” sounds like a broken record. The hook repeats “my old skool costs more than your new skool” and was borrowed from a 16 in another song. Man, where is the creativity? Another song “Thugs Need Love To” features Monica, R&B singer/girlfriend. The hook and verses don’t match and sound like they belong in other songs. You would think two people who could make babies could at least fake the chemistry.

On the production side “Self Made” boasts big beats. Thanks to Drumma Boi the album isn’t a total waste of money if you block out the vocals and ride to the beat. Drumma Boi did his thing which unfortunately was overshadowed by Rocko’s lack of lyrical ability. Whether his lazy delivery or Rocko’s quest to figure out if he wants to be Jeezy or TI (his sound) are to blame for this train wreck doesn’t really matter. Either way, he bought a studio and he didn’t know how to rap and he still doesn’t know.
